3 Meats, 3 Sides

Let me start by saying I'm not generally a BBQ person: don't like BBQ sauce, picky about meat, etc. but this food was DELICIOUS! The pulled chicken was some of the best chicken I've eaten, fantastic brisket and Tri-tip. And the sides were great (loved the creamed corn), not to mention the loaded tater tots (even the BBQ sauce)! The location is a little off the beaten path, but so worth the drive…great place to hang out and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a few beers and great food. Can't wait to go back!

I'm not sure if I can type "brisket" without drooling. Man, it's good! I highly recommend the ribs, too. This place is just magic- just the right mix of delicious food, cold beer, good music, and a fun crowd.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tri-tip, brisket, lamb and pulled chicken. The meats were mouth-watering and so moist, loved the tender smokiness of the lamb! Sides were cheese grits…omg, potato sally…amazing cross between traditional and german potato salad, beans…flavorful and fresh, macaroni and cheese…mmmm, and don't forget the jalapeño corn bread!! Not only is the food delicious, the vibe isn better!! Live music was just perfect, the staff is happy, the art, the view…Black Star Pirate BBQ is a unique hidden gem! Thank you Chef Tony and Pirates!!

The music was fabulous. Tasty spareribs and tri-tip. Coleslaw was good as was the potato salad. Was sad to get cold mac and cheese and a very thin piece of jalapeno cornbread. Also, most items that I expected to be hotter were tepid. Not sure what the issues were, they were busy but seemed to have a lot staff working. Will go again and give it another try for sure,

The portobello mushroom ("meat") was extremely filling and savory. The sauteed vegetables and the creamed corn complemented each other well. Also, the tater tots were the best I have ever had... one dish served a party of 3! The Sunday band set a relaxed tone for our whole meal, and a stroll along the beach/waterfront helped us to burn off the calories!

Diamond in the rough! Black Star Pirate BBQ serves up delicious selections of meats and sides. They have homemade BBQ Sauces ranging from O.G. to HOT, with a smoky chipotle middle option. I have been back three times and enjoyed every bite of their brisket (my fav!), pulled chicken, ribs, tri tip. And the sides are delectable! Potato Sally, Sautéed mushrooms, Cowboy Beans, Creamed Corn. I mean COME ON! These choices and flavors couldn't be better! And don't sleep on the loaded tots! While chowing down on amazing BBQ in the sun or in the shade, Black Star has a wide-ranging assortment of live music for you to enjoy! I've been lucky enough to groove to classic rock 'n roll, reggae and zydeco. And if you're a little early meeting your friends or you're not ready to leave after enjoying your meal, they have a separate outdoor bar area to keep on grooving. Have I mentioned the VIEW?! You will forget all about Bay Area traffic once you hit the scenic, winding road overlooking the bay and then delight when you arrive at Point San Pablo Harbor, pull up a chair on the water and admire the houseboats and yachts moored all around you. But I haven't even mentioned the best part of Black Star! It's the staff, the owner, the customers. Everyone is friendly and in a world that's been a little light on socializing, this outdoor venue is the perfect way to dip your toe back into peopling again. Also, it's dog friendly, in case fur friends are more your cup of tea. I hope you see you there!

I came to this place with no prior knowledge and therefore no prior expectations. Cue arrival, and I couldn't believe there was such a treasure of a place tucked away like this! This was such a delight after a few days of kayaking, and in so many ways! Wonderful live music, the people there are great, the menu is beautifully drawn and written, and the dishes are decadent. I had tri tip, pulled chicken, cheesy grits, mac'n'cheese, and creamed corn. I also tried out some of the pulled pork and cowboy beans. Personal ranking (top to bottom) of the things I had: tri tip, pulled pork, mac'n'cheese, creamed corn, pulled chicken, and cheesy grits. Amazing stuff after a tiring effort. Do note that it can get cool/chilly, since it's on the water and mostly outdoor seating. Also, this place was a dog-lover's heaven when we came, with plenty of dogs wandering around. Overall, just a great surprise of an experience, and hope to come back again!

Chopped Salad

There's usually not that much for a vegetarian at your average bbq joint. Fortunately, this is not your average bbq! There are loads of options, including *amazing* mushrooms and onions and the most crispy, perfectly seasoned tater tots you can imagine. But for me the most delicious surprise was the chopped salad. Getting salads at meat-focused restaurants is usually a bad idea, but this one was fantastic: perfectly balanced, with an array of crunchy, crispy, & fresh ingredients. It also turned out to be a deal: so filling that the salad and a shared plate of tater tots is enough for for two meals (and the leftover tots heated up wonderfully for dinner). My omnivore husband reports that his meat plate was very good too. Oh! And there's plenty of tasty, local beer if that's your thing.

Had the tri-tip, ribs, and pulled pork, for sides had the mac & cheese, cowboy beans and mushrooms and onions. Everything was very good. We'll be back and refer our friends&family. We had drinks while we waited for our to-go order. Next time we'll sit a spell and eat. ;)
